My husband and I faded very rapidly about 19 months ago. We were not the kind of parents that scared our kids or made them study on their precious evening off (that is how we were raised and hated it). To their credit, they did not buy the doctrine hook line and sinker and I always allowed them to discuss it. They were allowed to play sports and have neighborhood children as friends. They really had a hard time making friends in the congregation as they got older it was tough on them. When dad and I finally quit all together, the kids were very relieved, one thanks us almost everyday. Not a whole lot of explaining, it's been a process for them too, the older ones actually read CoC. The littler ones have just adapted very well with little explanation. NMKA

How do you talk to your kids?
by greenie injust a question that's been bubbling around in my head the last couple of weeks as more new people join the board or others become more established.
for those of you on here that have children, nieces, nephews, grandkids, cousins, friends' kids, etc., how do you talk to them about what the jws teach?
i know there are many here that are in mixed relationships that either started that way or became that way when one left, i know there are those here that have both left, and in any circumstances, i'm just wondering how you talk to your kids about the religion and their beliefs.

The Events That Caused Me to Start Pioneering (way back when...)
by AllTimeJeff ini was toying with the idea of re-writing my lifestory.
frankly, it would be long.
so i will just do some random experiences instead.

Jeff, thanks for the story. One of the reasons I got out was my son , who is approaching that age. I looked around at all the whack jobs he could potentially get hooked up and I trembled. We have close friends that are getting divorced now, 15 years later and this is how their marriage started. Young, mental illness and pioneering! How can the older generation (me, now) keep sanctioning this? You see it in every congregation!

We had one of these kooks at our hall. Problem with deodorant, perfume, makeup, laundry detergent, hair products, scented feminine products, air freshener. I came up to the hall to work with her in service one day. No makeup, no perfume, no body oil, no hair product (all of which I desperately need). I still didn't make the cut. Nail polish! Didn't I know there is formaldehyde in that!? When our congregation would not rip up the carpet, she went somewhere else. Good riddance, little pale faced, prairie dress wearin, stinky, hairy legged little freak. NMKA

Great story. Thank you for the time line. Funny I have heard the same thing about other people who have left "they started their own religion" must be a label for anyone who disagrees. NMKA

Why Would Someone Like me Leave the "Truth"? Part 3 Continued
by cantleave inmike and i decided that we would find out where he lived and visit him.
he had moved to completely different area but we were new elders and determined to get our man.
we confronted bro smith on his doorstep after establishing where his house was and waiting outside long enough to ensure that he was in.

Why Would Someone Like me Leave the "Truth"? Part 2
by cantleave inas stated in part 1 the latter part of the 1980s and 1990s were very good for my wife and i. we are doing well spiritually and both had good jobs.
our increasing income allowed us to move at a relatively young age to a nice area.
we wanted to stay in our old congregation but i was told as an appointed man i should support the congregation in my new territory.. this new congregation had a completely different feel about it to our old one.

Cantleave, your story sounds so familiar. I too remember practicing "being still and quiet" sessions as a child, like five meetings a week and service wasn't enough! ( must have been a suggestion from that era). I didn't see my dad for 3 decades. My husband and I also moved to a more affluent suburb and didn't fit in because we had to work to be there and didn't have family money or status. Know how it feels to have to drive 17 miles to the book study when there is one 1/2 mile away. I can't wait for the part 3, stories like yours make me realise I am not crazy, this organization just eats people up and spits them out! NMKA

Is There Any TV Show That You Wished Was Still On?
by minimus ini know a lot of people were upset when mash ended.
i never was a big fan of the show, probably because it was on a meeting night, but it was a very popular show.. i loved hill street blues, taxi, all in the family, the rifleman, even superman!
i wished those shows never stopped!.

It doesn't sound serious. Whenever your neurotransmitters are altered you may have very vivid dreams. Some folks say the have a hard time sorting out the dream from reality when they wake up. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for anesthesia to get out of your system. Make sure you stay well rested and hydrated. Make sure you report signs of infection like a fever, redness or wound drainage. Glad you don't have a lot of pain and hope you have a speedy recovery! NMKARN
